A Coalition of Student Aid Advocates - Student Aid Alliance

A Coalition of Student Aid Advocates - Student Aid Alliance

Good Morning,

As you are undoubtedly aware, we are facing critical times for federal student aid programs. The Joint Committee on Deficit Reduction or "Super Committee" is mandated to reach an agreement by November 23, 2011, on cutting the deficit by $1.2 trillion. Of particular concern, is the fact that student aid has already lost over $30 billion paying down the deficit in prior Reconciliation bills and the Budget Control Act.

I am asking for your thoughtful assistance in saving Pell grants and other student aid from potential cuts by the Joint Committee on Deficit Reduction and the FY12 Appropriations. The Student Aid Alliance, and numerous other higher education associations, has developed a Petition in support of Federal Student Aid which will be sent to Capitol Hill.

Here is that website: http://studentaidalliance.org/

To the extent that you feel comfortable doing so, I hope that you will share this with your campus community including other Administrators and Staff, Deans, Faculty, and Students. The goal of this outreach is to saturate all campuses across the country, so there will be thousands of signatures. The petition is basic and can be found at: http://action.studentaidalliance.org/5371/save-student-aid-statement

Thank you in advance for your consideration of this important and timely initiative,

Stephan
