Hi all,
Here's a project from my colleagues in Denmark that you may find of interest: http://www.n55.dk/MANUALS/SPACEFRAMEVEHICLES/spaceframevehicles.html and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPaBOMBIfKA . These are recumbent bicycles (tricycles, actually) made of square aluminum tubes, cut and drilled with hand tools any garage shop should have. No welding, no special framebuilding jigs or equipment. Uses standard bicycle cogs, wheels, brakes, etc available nearly anywhere. Open plans, distributed manufacturing strongly encouraged: http://www.n55.dk/MANUALS/SPACEFRAMEVEHICLES/DIY.pdf And rather pleasing to look at, I may add.

I've been assured that the similarity to Ken Isaac's gridbeam structures is completely coincidental-- http://www.gridbeamers.com/ -- but it's rather uncanny how two people across space and time would arrive at the same elegant solution.
