World Community Grid - FightAIDS@Home Webcast Replay & Other News
Dear technologiclee,
Here are several updates that we thought you might be interested in:

FightAIDS@Home Webcast Replay

On World AIDS Day, December 1, 2011, Dr. Alex Perryman of The Scripps Research Institute provided an informative webcast update on the FightAIDS@Home project.

We recorded Dr. Perryman's webcast and have put it on YouTube. If you were unable to participate in the webcast, you may watch it at your leisure by going to the News & Updates article here.

Please stay tuned for more webcasts in the future.

100,000 Device Challenge

We are running ten research projects simultaneously and each one is hungry for more computer run time so that the humanitarian research can be finished in a timely manner. For this reason we have started the 100,000 device challenge. Please consider ways you could help in adding more computers to World Community Grid. More information about this challenge is in this article.

Smarter Planet blogs for World Community Grid

World Community Grid is being featured on IBM's A Smarter Planet blog in a series of three articles. The first one was about World Community Grid support team member, Kevin Reed. The second article features one of the World Community Grid researchers, Igor Jurisica. And the most recent one is about the University of Saskatchewan, featuring Jason Hlady. Please enjoy these blogs and share them on your favorite social media outlet.

Help The Clean Energy Project

The Clean Energy Project from Harvard University needs your help! This project is conducting valuable research into materials that can improve efficiency and lower the cost of using solar power.

Many volunteers are contributing to the project and it is running smoothly on their computers. However, due to the higher system requirements of this project, a small percent of computers do not have the capacity to run this project. In order to meet our commitment of minimal impact on your computer, this project is not automatically selected when people join World Community Grid. However, our caution has resulted in The Clean Energy Project progressing slower than desired.

Please consider reviewing the system requirements for this project and if your computer is capable, please add this worthy project by going to your My Projects page and adding it to your list of projects.

Thank you,

Featured Publication

Academic and industrial research scientists and engineers, as well as students working in micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS), commonly encounter a steep learning curve when developing common MEMS fabrication processes. A fundamental, comprehensive MEMS-focused reference book just published by Springer promises to be an important game-changing asset for the field.

The handbook is co-edited by Reza Ghodssi, Director of the Institute for Systems Research and Herbert Rabin Distinguished Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park, Md.; and Pinyen Lin, Chief Technologist and Vice President of Business Development, Touch Micro-System Technology Corp. Taoyuan, Taiwan. It features 35 international contributing authors who are MEMS leaders in academic, industrial and government laboratory settings.

The final chapter on Process Integration was written by MNX founder and director Dr. Michael Huff.
